Blizzard
announced
today
the
overnight
success
of
the
European
release
of
World
of
Warcraft,
its
first
foray
into
the
MMORPG
market.
Blizzard
reports
that
its
latest
game
has
sold
through
about
280,000
copies
on
Friday
Feb
11
and
roughly
380,000
copies
were
sold
by
Feb
13.
World
of
Warcraft
is
shattering
records
in
the
European
market
and
is
the
fastest-growing
online
game
in
European
history.
To
support
the
European
launch,
over
80
servers
were
set
up
in
Paris
and
Frankfurt
to
support
the
more
than
290,000
new
characters
created
during
the
first
weekend.
More
servers
are
set
up
to
help
support
new
subscribers.
"We
are
extremely
pleased
by
the
launch
of
World
of
Warcraft
in
Europe,"
said
Mike
Morhaime,
president
of
Blizzard
Entertainment.
"Our
experience
of
launching
World
of
Warcraft
in
North
America
last
year
has
helped
us
to
prepare
for
Europe
by
providing
more
boxes
at
launch
than
we
had
previously
planned
and
deploying
more
servers
from
the
start,
which
we
hope
will
allow
us
to
provide
a
smooth
and
fun
game
experience
from
the
outset
for
everyone
playing."
World
of
Warcraft
has
been
available
stateside
since
Nov
22,
2004.
